Iraqi Christian Relief Council aids Iraqi Assyrian Christians now living as refugees in Turkey. Many of these families have fled extreme violence and religious persecution for the safety of Turkey. However, Assyrian Christian refugees often live in fear in Turkey, despite the country’s position as a secular nation. Christians in Turkey are often victim to attacks during times of political upheaval, such as the 2016 attempted coup. Christian families living in Turkey have reported they pretend to be Muslim in order to receive aid or evade persecution in their host country.
